CONCEPT_>
A BUILDING THAT IS ITSELF A CONTEMPORARY WORK OF ART, BRINGING IN THE ENERGY OF THE CITY, THE DYNAMIC MOVEMENT OF THE STREET, AND THE UNIQUENESS OF EACH INDIVIDUAL (THE ARTIST) WHO DISPLAYS WORK IN THE MUSEUM AS WELL AS THE OBSERVER (THE AUDIENCE).
A STRUCTURE THAT CAN BE EXPERIENCED DIFFERENTLY: FAR VS. NEAR, APPROACHING FROM PRINCE STREET VS. BOWERY, EXTERIOR VS. THE INTERIOR - BOTH SPATIALLY AND VISUALLY. THE ELEMENT OF SURPRISE TO THE OBSERVER AND THE OCCUPANT UPON ENTERING AND NAVIGATING THROUGH THE MUSEUM AIMS TO COMPLIMENT CONTEMPORARY ART.
EXPLORATION OF THE TRUNCATED DODECAHEDRON GEOMETRY AND DESIGNING AN AESTHETIC EXTERIOR THAT CREATES A RUSTIC CONDITION. VARIATION OF SCALE OF THE POLYHEDRA FACILITATES VISUAL BREAKDOWN OF THE STRUCTURE TO HUMAN SCALE. THE NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE SPACES PROVIDE PASSAGE FOR LIGHT AND SOMETIMES VIEWS THAT BRING IN THE CITY INTO THE MUSEUM.
THE NEGATIVE SPACES ON THE FACADE OF THE STRUCTURE BECOME PERSONAL AND INTIMATE EXTERIOR GARDEN SPACES, FACILITATING THE VISITORS TO THE MUSEUM TO EXPERIENCE THE CITY AS A WORK OF ART. AN INTIMATE SPACE, SUSPENDED ABOVE THE STREET, MOMENTARILY SUSPENDING TIME SO THIS DYNAMIC CITY CAN BE OBSERVED AND ABSORBED THE SAME WAY A PIECE OF ART INSIDE THE MUSEUM.
